The Playtex Diaper Genie II Elite

There’s nothing worse than walking into a house that smells like poop.

That’s why I was on a mission to find a diaper pail that would mask even the smelliest of messes. I was eager to give it a go,after having heard many good things about the Playtex Diaper Genie II Elite .
Before I could put the smell factor to the test, I had to assemble the pail. The directions looked easy enough and included helpful pictures for each step. Basically, all I had to do was snap together the hinge connecting the top and bottom of the pail and then insert the liner refill pack.

The hinge did require quite a bit of force to snap into place, but that told me that it would be unlikely to come apart once assembled. The liners pulled down easily once placed in the top of the pail, and once I tied a knot in the bottom of the first bag, it was good to go.

Ready to start my odor test, I pressed the foot pedal and dropped the first stinky diaper into the pail. I was fascinated by the trap door mechanism inside the pail, which quickly swallowed the diaper whole and whisked it away to the bottom part of the pail, where it was both out of sight and out of my nostrils.

I threw several pungent messes at the Diaper Genie II Elite varying in degree of smelliness, and the Diaper Genie handled them all like a champ. Every time I opened the door to the nursery, I expected to be greeted by the smell of sewage, but was relieved to be met by the sweet scent of my baby’s lotion instead.

When it came time to change the liner, all I had to do is press the button on the front of the pail, find the top of the liner, pull the liner film through the cutter by the pail’s hinge and knot off the bag. After racing the bag of soiled diapers to the outside trash, I simply pulled down the next refill and tied a knot at the bottom. After that, I was ready to face another odor-free day!
