Week 18: It’s a … !

Wait, wait, wait … You’ll have to read a bit of my blathering before you get to the good stuff!
I had an appointment at the birthing center with our midwife on Monday, and I got to hear sweet little babe’s strong heartbeat, as well as discover my uterus has now officially reached my belly button! Whoop, whoop! (Who knew I’d ever celebrate my pants officially not fitting anymore?!) My husband was busy catching up with clients after being gone on our European adventure, so he wasn’t able to make this appointment. Instead, I recorded the Doppler sound of baby’s heartbeat and sent it to him via text, which he let every client for the rest of the day listen to. Proud Papa! I sent it to all the grandparents, too.
After getting a strong heartbeat on Monday, we decided it was safe to let my stepson come to our appointment on Tuesday for the anatomy scan. I’ve had a miscarriage before, so every appointment has me on my toes until I hear that very sweet sound of a strong heart. My husband surprised him by checking him out of school a few hours early and whisking him down to the OB/GYN’s office where they met me.
The OB tells you the baby’s sex last, did you know that? Patience!
The anatomy scan was perfect—thank heavens. During the scan, she checked everything. Baby has strong bones that are on their way to hardening, a perfectly beating four-chamber heart and a big healthy brain! Baby is measuring a full week ahead in growth and was dancing around like crazy. I’m suddenly rethinking my decision to marry a man that’s 6 feet tall. Holy smokes! This is going to be a long baby!
She also let me know that I have an anterior placenta, which means my placenta has fixed itself to the outside wall towards my belly button, and baby is currently in breech position. None of this is a problem, but she did say that it’ll take me a while longer to feel baby kick because my placenta is basically now a barrier. Boo!
Suddenly, she announces … “Alright, y’all. I know the sex! Would you like me to tell you?”
We said, “We’d like you to tell Levi first, then he can tell us.”
So, she took my 7-year-old stepson into the hall and whispered it in his ear. He came back *beaming* knowing he knew whether or not he was getting a little brother or sister even before we did!
He spent 30 seconds (I’m fairly certain the longest 30 seconds of my life) holding on to his secret before he finally announced …
……
“IT’S A BOY!”
A little brother for the best big brother in the world. Yahoo!
